29 Faces -- Day 13 - Presenting Empress Gerta Gourd

Never before published...'cause I took the picture last night of Empress Gerta Gourd I of Vineland (I'm currently reading Catherine the Great's biography by Robert K. Massie and loving it, hence the imagined pomp and circumstance for my gourd). Instead of scrubbing off the naturally occurring design on the drying gourd body, I left it because I found it kind of beautiful. I worked with enhancing it with  paints and pen. Her majesty is resting against a soft pillow in her boudoir...one must have an imagination about these things! Or else I'm just nuts!!

  1. Well now, isn't this a lovely little lady? :-) And of course I'm sure you can imagine how I love the idea of not scrubbing off the natural design of the gourd, but instead 'working with it' as you have here -- the intricate patterns and designs found in nature can be beautiful and inspiring in and of themselves :-)
