Day 25 - 29 Faces - Happy!

My wish for you: Be Happy!

Day 24 - 29 Faces - Fly Away Home

Once again, have no idea where this came from. Drawings suggest things as I go along and I just go with the flow of it. And, I'm late in my submissions, so I must catch up before the end of the month. Five more to go....

Days 21, 22, 23 - 29 Faces - Banking Faces

Sarah Bernhardt (I'm currently enjoying a new biography about her) presents a clown face made from a tea bag. During the last 29 Faces challenge we made art on tea bags. Mine was this guy but it was so fragile I reinforced it with an ATC card and was able to make a background and enhance the colors. The third creation came out of the subconscious because of a situation (I guess) I am currently involved in. All I can say is, "I wish we could see eye to eye or more probably overcome the "I to I!"

Day 20 - 29 Faces - Energy in Gold

Cheat number two. This preceded the last picture but was transformed into a monochromatic color scheme. You can't see the gold tone at all in this scan.

Day 19 29 Faces - Bursting with Energy

Trying to play catch up today...almost there...one more to do to stay even...then one more to get ahead! Having fun, loving this playful challenge!

Day 17 - 29 Faces - Inspired by a bio of Sarah B.

I'm reading a biography of Sarah Bernhardt and I love her style -- totally outrageous, especially for her time. She slept in her own coffin (she knew how to work the system before there was an identifiable system for gaining publicity!) Here's to the real divas everywhere. Here's to true originality!

Day 13 - 29 Faces - Cats in My Hat

Working on Mum's Day so must get ahead on the 29 Faces challenge!

Day 12 29 Faces - Swimming with the Fishes

Yes, I know the word fish is both singular and plural but you know how the saying goes: "fishes."

Day 11 - 29 Faces - I Love Sunflowers!

It's a Sunflower Day - that means it's a happy day, bright and sunny! Hope you're having one too!

Day 9 - 29 Faces - In Living Color

Okay, call me a cheater, I have added two of the same lady for the challenge This one has special highlights and she is actually the original. So pick your favorite - the one in blue or the one in color, or not!

Day 8 - 29 Faces - Blue Girl

Special effects - this is really a brightly colored drawing which I have altered with computer effects. After seeing the blue, the original might be too brightly colored even though I generally love bright colors. I may also use the original on another day when I am too tired to created another one!

Day 7 - 29 Faces - Frida Face

This is part of another May challenge by Gritty Jane for doing something inspired by Frida Kahlo (one of my favorite painters). There's a lot of Frida love out there--she's so totally unique! This is my first Frida--maybe I'll catch that Frida bug too for inspiration!

Day 5 - 29 Faces - What's Up?

This is another one that started with a small head and big head of hair that turned into curls and evolved from there. No idea where it came from--but I always seem to get the direction once I have started a drawing without a clue where I'm going. Maybe the title is indicative of this approach!

Day 4 - 29 Faces - Ascend

Now that we we've been in the depths of hell with yesterday's "seductress," let us return to the light with ascend!

Day 3 - 29 Faces - Seductress From Hell!

I'm jumping ahead before I get behind. I don't know what kind of time I will have as I am getting off work so late each day. I have the day off tomorrow so maybe I can work on stuffing a few more in before I get so far behind I won't ever be able to catch up. I need this kind of pressure to keep pushing them out! And, I really, really enjoy creating as I never know where it will take me or what will inspire me to produce!

29 Faces - Day Two - Headdress

Inspired by a tribal necklace--I turned it into a headdress to frame the face. She is a the Goddess de Headdress...hehe. I just like to play, as you can see!

Day 1 - 29 Faces - Contemplation

I'm contemplating how I'm going to accomplish creating 29 faces in May, what with all the other things I must accomplish this month. Well, at least I started, we'll see if I can keep up...it's always too much fun not to try!

May 1st 29 Faces Challenge

It will be fun to begin the second 29 Faces challenge for the month of May. The first one celebrating the month of February was a terrific challenge, I think we all enjoyed. If anyone wants to join, it's open to all. Just create and post a face a day for the month of May. To get the detailed instructions press the 29 Faces button to the right of this post. The challenge really gets the juices going and often times you will find the pressure to perform renders some really outstanding pieces you might never have created otherwise. Have fun with it--if you can't keep up at first or at any time, there's no punishment or embarrassment, just do what you can! I can't wait to get started. See you on May 1st.

I love the rain, getting out in the "April Showers" and collecting it on my tongue! One of the joys of life!

The Goddess of Spring

This is one from a few years ago--out of the vault--that seems appropriate for the season!
It's a mixed media all glued together with melted wax. It was great fun to play with it and I think I might just try the technique again today with something new for Spring.

Mandala Play

I was admiring another person's Mandalas and decided to make one--I haven't made any in a while. You can see I didn't measure accurately. I need to get a better tool for making circles where the pencil doesn't move up and the measurer stays stationary. Cheap tools make cheap stuff. Moral of the story: Buy good tools. I still want to make more though, making patterns this way is fun and watching the interplay of colors is always great to see for future use.

Modigliani Challenge - Second Attempt New Portrait

There are many things wrong with this one (as usual) but I decided to just make it in my style, based on the tools I had. I still want to do it again to make it better.

Modigliani Challenge - Attempt to Copy Modigliani Bust: Arrggh!

This is the work by Modigliani I attempted to copy. Oh, what a mess I made of it. I tried to duplicate it in clay, thinking it would be relatively easy. His work is just so beautiful with wonderful planes. It's chiseled in stone and it emulates African masks. I've always loved it. I have good taste since it sold at Southeby's for $36 million dollars. As always, the sad thing is Modigliani died at the age 36 of tuberculosis and other assorted addictions. He was not really recognized until after his death. His girlfriend was pregnant and she committed suicide a few days after his death. I just don't see the justice in the exhorbitant prices paid for art when the poor artist never saw a cent of it during his lifetime. Anyway, back to my lousy copy: It was so hard to do because when I tried to make corrections on one side I smooshed the other side and had to correct that then recorrect, etc. It came out looking more like the witch from the Wizard of Oz. Everything is off, off, off: the nose, the neck, the eyes, the face shape. Yikes it was excruciating! Yesterday, I smashed it and thought I would retry today but so far I have not gone back to it. This is one way to get an even stronger appreciation for the artist who created it bigger and in stone!!(The size of mine is shown sitting next to my cat Trixiebelle on a bench. She's saying, "Are you kidding me?"

Oh Boy, a new Challenge by Ayala --Modigliani

This is not an entry into the challenge. But I'm so excited to start working on the Modigliani Challenge for my next upload. Must create the art first. Yeah, more fun!!

Why?

That's a Good Question. No one really has the answer though.
